"it was marvellous! so abandoned! I was flying around the room and falling over people and shouting and twirling and I suddenly realised that John Ramsden and Phillip Dunn were after me and I in my tightness and un-soundedness of mind gave way to the little Dunn. If i had been sober i should have paid more attention to the silly Ramsden. He is so smart and dances with the Duchess of York. I was so tight and so pleased with myself… I was in a state, rushing with Phillip Dunn and John Ramsden after me from one couch to another and then falling over a sofa and being smothered with kisses from Phillip Dunn, and John Ramsden saying, “Oh Phillip i shall never speak to you again. Oh Cecil. Oh Cecil. I thought your shingle was too marvellous… I would look at something and gradually it would become focused and i could see what it was- and i could see Charles Cavendish staring at me with a smile on his face and i heard him say ‘Cecil’s tight’… My hair was being stroked and my face kissed and my lips and my mouthed licked. It was the most abandoned thing and i so enjoyed it and my heart beat with pure un-lustful love! I tried to dance and fell over everybody and i tried to get away from the pursuers and shouted to Jack to look after me. There was a terrible fight and i rushed out and was sick all over Anthony Jenkinson’s couch. God i was so full of remorse."

A Quote from Cecil Beaton’s diary that was in his biography written by Hugo Vickers.
