re: Reality Television. Perhaps three or four years ago, a nascent rift began to grow between my associates at work and myself. It wasn't until someone barked at me , suggesting I dine at my desk, that I realized the rift was due to reality television. I had been making rare, clever little jabs about these sideshows at the start, but it came to the point where I simply couldn't bear to hear the inane comments which my (former) friends were making. My clever jabs became overtly cynical. With some individuals, I worried about their grip on REAL reality when they spoke of participants in these shows as if they were true acquaintances. Sex has always been called the lowest common denominator to employ when attempting to gain a reader or an audience. After walking on higher ground at first, publishers and producers would give up and appeal to the reader, or the viewer, with tantalizing methods aimed at the nether regions of the mind. Another win for the libido. And now, as they increase and mutate, reality shows have aligned themselves with sex to become the newest 'low' for the persuasive hawkers. Sell, sell, sell!
